Solar energy in Pennsylvania

Solar energy can be used not only as a renewable resource for hot waer, but also for heating system in winter, what brings a high cost saving in fossil fuel.

There are different kinds of solar panells.



On one hand, we have solar photovoltaic panels, alos calles modules, that are formed with solar cells, compound of a semiconductos called silica, that converts fotons of solar light in electrons.



On the other hand, we have panels or collectors. A solar panel can be photovoltaic or thermal, but when we use the term collector, we are always refering to thermal panells.



Thermal collectors can be very different. The most common are flat panells. We can also see high performance collectors. The most common are the vacuum tubes collectors. Flat panels, that we can see in this iamges, are crossed by a pipe with a fluid inside that is heated when crossing the collector. The look of this vacuum tubes collectors are a bit different. Each pipe is wrapped in a glass cilinder where vacuum was made. The isolation is therefore much higher and, water is much hotter. This two types of panells are used in big facilities of big technical complexity, that need of an engineer or high qualified personal to program them.



We have also thermosiphon, a flat collector with a water deposit incorporated, and works completely mechanical, without the nedd of hydraulic pumping nor electric control. It is much easier to planify and install one of this systems.




And we can finally find plastic panells, that are used for outdoors swimming pool climatization. They are just plastic panels with some holes where the swimming pool water circulates. We cannot use them to generate drinking hot water for hygienic reasons.
