Tucson will soon harvest some of its rainwater and other Arizona cities will follow, next
The nation´s first rainwater harvesting law stipulates that, starting in 2010, developers of new business and commercial and corporate buildings in Tucson, will have to supply fifty per cent of the water needed for landscaping from harvested rainwater.
Other states may soon follow such as Colorado and Georgia.
It´s a fact that a lot of rainwater is wasted and, instead of letting it fall on roofs, streets or parking lots, we could and should harvest it and utilize it for watering lawns, plants and other uses.
In Tucson, besides this new law, a measure requiring a plumbing hook up in new homes has also passed, so that, if the homeowner is interested and, at an additional expense, the dwellings wastewater can be sent to a separate drain line and used for irrigation,
