Man thought that the Earth was an inexhaustible source of resources, and that his actions upon it would have no consequences. But the consequences begin to arrive and very few believed it, at first. Only a few were able to predict what we all now accept as fact and even less did something in order to prevent what was coming. Soliclima was one of the few pioneers.

Construction of the world's largest offshore wind farm, the London Array, starts

The total capacity of the park will be1GW. Once completed, it will produce enough electricity for one fourth of the London urban area.

In the first phase, 630 MW of capacity will be built and about 175 turbines. According to Anders Eldrup, Ceo of DONG Energy, the British government decision to temporarily increase the subsidies to offshore wind projects, saved the marine wind farm. This decision was probably influenced by the announcement made by several investors of withdrawing from the project, due to its lack of profitability.

Offshore work is scheduled to begin in 2011 and onshore, this summer. Wind turbines will be installed by Siemens and will have 3.6 MW of power.
British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said about the project:"The London Array is a flagship project in our drive to cut emissions by 80% by 2050 and meet future energy needs. The UK is a world leader in offshore wind farms, creating jobs and prosperity for the economy. That's why we have increased our support for this technology as we move towards a low carbon future."

Masdar, a company focused on sustainable development in the oil state of Abu Dhabi, holds a 20% share of the project, with the goal of not giving up its worldwide leadership, once oil loses its position in the international market. Masdar has also invested in thermoelectric in southern Spain.

After some uncertainty about the project´s funding and the withdrawal of Shell, Danish energy company DONG, the major shareholder, announced the go ahead for the first phase of the project.
