Water denitrificator in Texas
The abundance of pig farms may pose a problem for the drinking water in some places.
Fecal waste, originated in pig farms, has been commonly dumped in surrounding areas. This waste, which is often used as fertilizer or as a base material for the production of biogas, presents a problem when it´s dumped in this manner, because of the uncontrolled release of nitrates and the nitrites in them. These chemicals are the reason why this type of waste is used as fertilizer, but, large amounts, can contaminate the water, raising the concentration levels well above what is considered healthy for humans.
These places are in danger of nitrification and, sometimes, denitrificators are used, as in the case of this particular installation.
