Solar power plant in Kansas
Solar power plant located on the roofs of industrial buildings in Kansas
This is an installation of 500 SolarWorld modules of 215 W each. A SolarMax 100 C inverter has been used. The peak power is 107,500 W and the annual production of, approximately, 169,215 kWh.
Photovoltaic solar power is used to produce electricity that can be sold to the electric company or for individual consumption, although, these cases are rare. Until not long ago, the installations were mostly in the countryside, but, now, placing them on roofs, especially in industrial areas, is being more encouraged.
The sale of this electricity is financially compensated because, the company that purchases the electricity, does so at a higher price than what it sells it for, since this is part of the policy to promote renewable energies.
Other types of renewables are:
- Solar thermal: it produces heat for hot water and heating and can be used at home and in businesses.
- Biomass: primarily, boilers and stoves using pellets. The pellets are small chips made of a material similar to pressed sawdust, manufactured from waste from the forestry and timber industries.
- Geo thermia: the subsoil main characteristic is that it keeps the same constant temperature throughout the year. This way, it gives us cooling in summer and heating in winter. This energy can be generated by a geothermal pump for both, hot water and heating the house.
- Eolic energy: we´ve all heard of Acciona and Iberdrola and their large wind fields around the world, but, the wind can also be used by low power windmills in rural homes located in very windy areas. This type of energy is also subsidized.
